Rottweiler 'Robin' Pet Portrait
Dog Portrait Paintings in Acrylic on Canvas
Robin's owner commissioned a portrait of this beautiful rottweiler for his wife's birthday. Robin sadly passed away a few months ago after suffering with cancer and she is terribly missed at home. She was only six years old. The client had given me lots of photographs and he picked one were Robin is looking at the camera with such a lovely expression on her face. I added a shaded background with a little blue which contrasts the brown highlights in Robin's fur. The painting was medium in size - 30 x 40cm - 12 x 16inches and was painted with acrylic on stretched canvas. Sides of the painting are painted to match the background. Below is a scan of the final painting with a detail which is almost real-size. I scan all paintings myself and keep the files for clients for any future art prints orders.
Reference Photograph
The reference photograph was perfect and all I did was to change the background to a simple shaded one. I had lots of photographs of Robin which was very helpful as I could match the colour of her fur and eyes more accurately.
Robin's Portrait in Progress
As always I started with a one colour sketch of Robin to create her likeness before adding any detail. The second stage was to start adding her colouring and following stages were all about layering these colours, emphasizing shadow areas and detailing Robin's fur. I took photographs of the progress and they were post on the Art in Progress Blog for the client to follow the progress.

Art Prints and Finished Painting Canvas
The client decided to order art prints of Robin's portrait. I have taken photographs of the prints which worked out really well. The prints were printed on Hahnemühle Torchon 285gsm paper, one print was the size of the painting - 30 x 40cm and two prints were 20 x 25cm in size. I keep all artwork scans on file and clients can order prints of their portrait anytime. These make great presents for other family members.
