Yorkshire Terrier Pet Portrait in Pencil
Dog Portrait Drawings in Graphite Pencil
This dog portrait is of a yorkshire terrier called Skippy. His owner commissioned a pet portrait in his memory. Skippy died at the age of 16 and is sorely missed. The photograph was taken back in 2008. The drawing was drawn on Fabriano paper with graphite pencils. The size is a little smaller than A4 - 20 x 25cm. As all my other pencil portraits, it is finished with artist fixative for long lasting durability and was posted in a custom cut mount with backing board - ready for framing.
Terrier Pet Portrait with Detail
Below is a scan of the final drawing with detail on the side. If commissioning a portrait, you have an option of a printed art print or greeting cards created from your finished pet portrait, in case you would like your family to have a copy of your portrait. If you require more information or would like to commission your own pet portrait, you can contact me here.

Client Photographs
This section shows photographs the client has provided for their portrait. The client asked me to remove some of the tangles under Skippy's chin. I kept the background white in this portrait for Skippy's head and eyes to pop.
Dog Portrait in Progress
The Portrait in Progress photographs below show how Skippy's pet portrait developed as I worked my way around the page. Clients have an opportunity to change aspects of the portrait if necessary. I adjusted Skippy's hair a couple of times as the client felt it was too messy. For more progress photographs and to see what I am working on today, go to the Art in Progress Blog.
"I received Skippy's portrait yesterday. I was so excited to receive it and was delighted with the result. You took an awful lot of care with packing and of course I ripped open the plastic before I read your instructions!! No damage done I think. Will look into framing next week - probably something neutral and simple. Thanks again for everything and I will treasure your drawing....The finished portrait is just lovely. I'm delighted. You have done a great job with the tangles...I really appreciated the opportunity for input as you went along..."
